This walrus pair was near our Zodiac when they popped their heads out of the water. We were on a cruise near the island of Svalbard, three hours flight north of Oslo. The walruses were feeding on clams in the shallow water, and were curious about our tiny boat. They were very quick – just a fast breath, and back down they went. This pair, a male with larger tusks and female with smaller tusks, were only about 20 feet from our boat.
